Mixticious Love

Sometime last week a friend spoke on interracial relationship and today i watched something on tv about it again...... Being in an interracial relationship for some years now myself has made to me to realize that these relationships is never an easy journey for either party, be it the man or the women and it don't matter who loves who. It takes time, a lot of patience and energy. Most times the effect on family and friends puts a huge toll on the couple itself that not many would want to be drained emotionally with the family feud and cultural difference. I would be lying to say that its been a bed of roses for me. There will always be a family member that you will never see eye to eye with on the topic. Again it takes time either you give in to make the family happy or you give a damn and make yourself happy!

Like most culture being Asian doesn't help to be excluded from the drama, these sacrifices feel like you are carrying a monkey on your back, cause you always have to honour and respect..... its just a matter how far you will go in order to sacrifice your own happiness. I'm glad my family gave me breathing space to make decisions for myself in life unlike some that I have witnessed that goes all the way out making sure that no rules are broken.
Enough said about family but I have realise that being in an interracial relationship itself is not easy, after the honeymoon phase is over its more about learning new things that you may or may not have been used to.
Living in a community where we grow up having an opinion as a women maybe a taboo in some cultures. Things like this is where understanding and compromising for love plays a huge role. Many women end up changing some ways in life for the relationship to work and you lose a part of your personality (this can be for the better or worst). These days the term foreigner almost means nothing any more for airline tickets are dirt cheap and the internet has made the world so much closer. Its unlike 20 years ago when flight fares would mean you selling a kidney at the black market and Timbuktu sounded like it was next to the moon. Being from a small town it was rare to see a Caucasian men not to talk of an African men. It is possible these days for someone in Alaska to met an Australian any time and fall in love, Skype 20 times a day and fly back and forth if you choose to do so or you personally own a 707 in your back yard like John Travolta. Also thanks to the internet we have all become citizens of the World Wide Web. Yes the WWW the brilliant invention that brought the world closer then ever.
All said and done home is where the heart is with whoever that has the best intentions for you at all times. Whatever road you choose to take, it may be the beginning of your bliss or vice versa. Of course one would have to be happy personally to share peace and harmony with whom you love, only then will we learn to appreciate and respect people for who they are and not what they are. To me its all about being strong and holding on to what you want and believe in life. No matter where he or she is from, if you love someone and they appreciate you for who you are and makes your heart skips a beat, then it sure is worth it to do the whole nine yards.
